Seismovision and Day of Defeat

I would like to use Seismovision for Day of Defeat, a very popular Half-Life MOD. So I'm assuming to complete this I would have to make the CS path to DoD instead? I was also curious whether or not anything could be done with demos from Older Versions of DoD without having to install that version.

Half-Life is a bad engine in terms of demo backward compatability. For each demo protocol you need to have a seperate version installed. This will just add stress to your life. If one day I release Seismovision3, this will be a bit simpler but you will still need to have a copy for each protocol installed. Seismovision3 will just select the one needed as with Seismovision2 you would need to change the path manually everytime when playing a different protocol.
If you have DoD as a mod, simply point to your Half-Life appliation and Half-Life will load the correct mod automatically. Are you using a retail version of DoD? I dont know much about this mod...

So how about other engines such as - Quake III and the mods that run off that - would it be possible to view a demo recorded from v1.0 on the latest?

Its not possible with all games. Quake 3 Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Soldier of Fortune 2 are such games where it is possible but only with help of an external program such as Seismovision.
Seismovision 'downgrades' a games version to make the demo playable. The AVA Updates contain the data required for that process.
